Villa V

The site is located in a classic, naturally beautiful Finnish setting, on a steep and rugged lakeside slope. The task was to design a leisure villa and its associated auxiliary spaces that meet the client's diverse functional needs while seamlessly blending into the powerful natural surroundings. The aim was to simultaneously support an active lifestyle while offering a peaceful counterbalance to urban life.

Our solution was a two-and-a-half-story building that terraces strongly with the terrain, with the main entrance arranged through a tranquil courtyard formed between the pine-covered rock slope and the L-shaped building. The interior spaces were designed to open strongly towards the surrounding landscape. As much as possible of the original vegetation, moss, rocks, boulders, and topography of the site were preserved.

Outside we chose elegantly aging, landscape-blending materials; weathered wood and natural stone for the facades, and slate shingles for the roof. Inside, we used solid oak, plaster, and natural stone in various forms.

The use of natural stone has always been an essential part of our design philosophy. In this project, natural stone in various forms, played an exceptionally important role in the architecture. We used it both outdoors and indoors, in walls, columns, ceilings, terrace surfaces, garden walls, and stairs. It connects the interior and exterior spaces. We also incorporated large moss-covered boulders, native to the site, in several ways in the landscaping.
