Riddarhuset - House of Nobility

The House of Nobility is considered to be Finland's most significant non-religious building in the Neo-Gothic style. The building was originally designed by architect T.H. Chiewitz and was completed in 1862, originally intended to serve as a meeting place for the nobility in the three-estate parliament of the time.

Since the turn of the last century, our office has played an active role in restoring the building to its rightful condition. For over a quarter of a century, we have been gradually planning structural, technical, functional, and aesthetic improvements. In recent years, the focus has increasingly shifted towards the latter categories, and we are pleased to see that the building's magnificent architecture is slowly being restored to its original splendour.

Our work on the House of Nobility is a long-term and patient restoration of a culturally and historically significant building. In our solutions, we have always aimed to think several steps ahead, ensuring that decisions made today will support future solutions and contribute to a cohesive and functional whole. To keep a historical public building functional requires constant adaptation to the ever-changing world. It is a delicate balance between respecting the architecture and history while meeting contemporary functional requirements.

Our work at the House of Nobility continues, and our passion for the building has remained strong throughout.
